Quebec’s 41th Legislature broke records in the number of members of the National Assembly (MNAs) who stepped down and had to be replaced in by-elections. Over Philippe Couillard’s four-year-and-a-half term, there was a total of 15 by-elections!
Will there be as many MNAs quitting during the CAQ’s first term? Already, voters in the Roberval riding (Lac-Saint-Jean) must return to the polls to replace the former Premier. He retired from politics because his party was defeated.
We will be measuring the strength of all parties throughout these contests just as we did during the 2018 general election. The metrics we will be watching are which parties field candidates and how well is their funding progressing.
To gain a historical perspective, you can check below the parties’ dates of authorization and their 2014 results, if they existed at the time, followed by their 2018 results.
